Since August 5, thirty-three miners have been trapped 2,300 feet under Chile in a small mine shaft shelter. They were down there for seventeen days before anyone even knew that they had survived the explosion in the mine. It is estimated that it will take rescuers FOUR MONTHS to dig a shaft large enough to pull the men out one at a time.
When I read this article, I pondered what it would be like to be stuck in a dark hole for four months. I personally would go crazy because I can't even go outside my house at night without a huge spotlight with me. Just imagine what those people are going though. There are thirty-three of them scrunched together in a tiny dark hole a mile underground. I can't even begin to comprehend how bad the smell would be--I mean they have to pee in the same room they sleep in. I would try to comfort them by saying, "I know what you're going through," but I don't.
I hope every one of these guys make it out alive at the end of a long stay with Mother Earth. Just put yourself in their shoes. You think you could handle their situation. You think you know dark.
